In the third millennium, the greatest resources are oil and tourism. The Horn could exploit tourism: Ethiopia does a little, Eritrea hardly at all and Somalia is too busy fighting. These countries have desperate need of foreign currency to rebuild peaceful societies. Poverty, disease and drought are a scourge in one of the most beautiful corners of the earth. The photos of Alberto Vascon, who loves Africa, demonstrate the truth of this.

The term Abyssinia is lately regarded with disfavour by Eritreans and even some Ethiopians. We would like to discuss the problem because it seems inappropriate to let this word, with all its history, nobility and fascination, fall into disuse. The term is used today in the West with a mixture of respect and awe.

Ultimamente il termine “Abissinia” è decisamente visto con poca simpatia dagli eritrei.
Desideriamo considerare il problema perché non ci sembra opportuno abbandonare questo termine carico di storia, di nobiltà e di fascino che è utilizzato oggi nel lessico occidentale con tanto rispetto misto ad un senso di velato mistero.
